About Esomeprazole 40mg

Esomeprazole is used to treat the symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), a condition in which heartburn and potential damage to the oesophagus (the tube that connects the stomach and the throat) occur in adults and children one year of age and older due to the reflux of stomach acid backward. Esomeprazole is prescribed to adults and children one month of age and older to alleviate the damage caused by GERD. Adults with GERD are treated with esomeprazole to help the oesophagus repair and avoid additional damage. Additionally, esomeprazole is used to reduce the risk of adult nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) users developing ulcers, or sores in the stomach or gut lining. In addition, it is used in conjunction with other drugs to treat and stop the recurrence of adult stomach ulcers brought on by the H. pylori bacteria. Additionally, adults with Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and other diseases where the stomach overproduces acid are treated with esomeprazole. For the treatment of adult patients with regular heartburn (heartburn that happens at least twice a week), nonprescription (over-the-counter) esomeprazole is used. Esomeprazole belongs to a group of drugs known as proton pump inhibitors. It functions by reducing the quantity of acid produced in the stomach.
