Nifedipine Extended Release Tablets About

Composition:

  • Each extended release film coated tablet contains:
  • Nifedipine USP ........................... 20 mg
  • Excipients ....................................... q.s.
  • Colour: Titanium Dioxide BP & Red Oxide of Iron.

Indication:

Nifedipine is used in patients to manage chronic stable angina and to manage mild to moderate high blood pressure.


Dosage and Administration:

The recommended starting dose of Nifedipine is 20 mg every 24 hours swallowed with water. Nifedipine permit titration of initial doses, which may be adjusted upward to 40 mg every 12 hours, to maximum daily dose of 80 mg. Usual maintenance dose 30 to 60 mg once daily.

Tablets must be swallowed whole with a little liquid, either with or without food. Nifedipine tablets should not be taken with grapefruit juice. The tablets should not be crushed, chewed, divided or dissolved.

Side effect:

Less than 3% can have side effects like leg pain, paresthesia rash, constipation, leg cramps, rhinitis, urinary frequency, vertigo and impotence.
