Cloxacillin Sodium USP

Indications:
Cloxacillin is the antibiotic of choice in the treatment of systemic or localised staphylococcal infections caused by bacteria that are sensitive or resistant to penicillin. Cloxacillin is also indicated in the treatment of sepsis, acute and chronic osteomyelitis, bolis, mastitis, infected wounds and burns, endocarditis, meningitis, respiratory tract infections urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections.
Drug Interactions:
Probenecid or Disulfiram: Co-administration of probenecid or disulfiram may result in higher cloxacillin concentration
Chloramphenicol and Tetracycline: Chloramphenicol and Tetracycline antagonise bactericidal effects of Penicillin.
Oral Contraceptives: Cloxacillin may interfere with the effectiveness of birth control pills.
Lab Tests: Interferes wih urinary glucose tests using cupric sulphate. False-positive results in urine and serum protein, uric acid and urinary steroid tests.
Warnings:
Cloxacillin should be administered with caution in patient with previous allergy to penicillin or cephalosporin antibiotics or anaphylactic reactions and also should be given cautiously to patient with renal impairment or patients with a history of seizure disorder.
