INDICATION:

DLC-KCL isused as a source of potassium cation for the treatment or prevention ofpotassium depletion in patients for whom dietary measures or oral medicationare inadequate. It may also be used cautiously in those taking digoxin wherepotassium depletion may cause arrhythmias.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:

Adultsand Children:

It mustbe diluted by adding to a large volume IV fluid before use. For example, 10mlsdiluted with not less than 500mls 0.9% Sodium Chloride IV Infusion, or anothersuitable diluent. Dosage depends on the serum ionogram value and the acid-basestate.It is recommended not to exceed 2-3 MMOL potassium/kg body weightin 24 hours.

WARNING AND PRECAUTION:

DLC-KCLmust not be injected undiluted.

It shouldbe administered with caution in patients with cardiac disease and in patientswho are receiving potassium sparing diuretics or other medications which mayincrease plasma potassium levels.

SIDE EFFECTS:

Painat the injection site and phlebitis may occur during IV administration ofsolutions containing 30 MMOL potassium or more per litre.

Hyperkalaemiais the most common and serious hazard of potassium therapy.
