COMPOSITION:

Each film coated tablet contains:
Erythromycin stearate BP
Eq. to Erythromycin 500mg
Excipients q.s
Colour: Erythrosine

INDICATION:

Infections due to susceptiblemicro-organisms such as gram-positive cocci and bacilli. Erythromycin stearatehas been found to be effective in vitro against Gram-positive organisms such asStaphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes and Streptococcus viridans,enterococci and pneumococci. It also inhibits some strains of Neisseriae,Haemophilus influenzae, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Listeria, Pasteurella andTreponema.

Upper and lower respiratory tractinfections due to Streptococcus pyogenes, Haemophilus influenzae and Mycoplasmapneumoniae.

Erythromycin stearate is an alternatetreatment for Neisseria gonorrhoea and primary syphilis in patients allergic tothe penicillins. Before treatment of gonorrhoea patients who are suspected ofalso having syphilis should have a microscopic examination for T. pallidum.

Erythromycin is successful asadjunctive therapy to the antitoxin in the treatment of tetanus. The drug hasalso proved to be successful in the treatment of infections due to Bordetellapertussis and Listeria monocytogenes.
